The Championship Game between Shake-N-Bake and Malden Catholic featured some of the best lacrosse players in New England. From rising freshman and sophomores, to DI-bound juniors and seniors, the game was fast, with balanced attacks, and stellar goalkeeping. Shake-N-Bake jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and the thought was "this is going to be a blowout". However, Malden Catholic responded by notching their first goal mid way through the first half.
Shake-N-Bake continued to dominate offensively, always seeming to be up by three-until the midway point of the second half. MC began wearing down the defense, winning face-offs, and controlling their own offense, bringing the game score to 7-5 with less than five to go. Another goal brought the game to 7-6 and with stop time in the last two minutes, a strategic battle took place between Bob Scalise and MC coach Jeff Smith.
A late unsportsmanlike conduct call against Shake-N-Bake brought the ball to midfield for MC's possession, and with only 12 seconds left a mad dash to the net ensued. Shake-N-Bake shook the ball from the MC offense, only to lose it with 5 seconds left. A quick desperate toss to the front of the net created a scramble for the loose ball-and in a split second Shake-N-Bake cleared the crease as time expired. A great end to a great summer of lacrosse-and Shake-N-Bake repeats as Champion for the fourth year in a row.

The Homegrown Women Fell behind to a speedy Ipswich team, who as noted in their matchup against Marblehead the day before, were very prepared to take home a second straight title.
Combine a DI prospect in Kelsey Duryea (goalie and/or attack), and balanced scoring, Corinne Baker's team was hard pressed to find the back of the net despite a constant flurry of shots. Offensive control for either team was about even, but the stonewall effect of Duryea's skills kept the momentum in Ipswich's favor. Rebounds, missed passes, or missed shots were quickly cleared by a fast team- and Homegrown ended up on the losing end when it was all said and done. Congrats to both teams, and Lauren Carelli (Endicott '10) for the back to back titles!
While Reading had it's hands full against a Masco team in the double elimination playoffs, the team that showed up for the championship game was but a shadow of it's former self. Short on numbers, a weak effort, and with a loser's attitude, team Masco no showed in spirit.
Despite the meek start, the game did take place, with Coach O'Leary's guys getting one final workout before hanging up the smelly gloves for a few weeks. On the flip side, Reading and Coach DeBenedetto (St. Anselm '13) roared into the stadium parking lot in full, and rocketed their way to a first ever NSL Summer League Championship. Congrats!

Jeff Coulson, President of Coaches Eye, met with league director Craig Roderick to offer all North Shore Lacrosse participants the opportunity to get film beginning October 25th. As part of their recent promotion, all participants receive a one month free subscription. Says Roderick "We are intent and purposeful in aligning ourselves with dedicated, professional organizations-that's why we chose to work with Bryan (Owner, Homegrown) and Jeff (Coaches Eye)-two class acts in the lacrosse world who work hard to promote their teams, players, and their players' opportunities. For players and parents who want organized, safe, competitive games, to those players moving towards collegiate level lacrosse, we are proud to include North Shore Lacrosse in such fine company".
